Quick Answer: Bhajan and Panchapadi at Shegaon runs every evening from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Shri Gajanan Maharaj Sansthan. On Thursdays, Dashami, Ekadashi and big festivals, Kirtan takes its place and starts at 8:00 PM. You sit on the floor, and you’re welcome to sing along. For the rest of the day, see all aarti timings at Shegaon.

If you’re planning an evening at Shegaon, two questions usually come up: what time does the bhajan start, and what exactly is Panchapadi? You’ll find both answers below for Shri Gajanan Maharaj Sansthan, Shegaon, Dist. Buldhana, Maharashtra. Want the whole day mapped out? Start with our Shegaon darshan timing guide.

What is Panchapadi in the Warkari tradition?

Panchapadi is a set of five abhangs, the devotional songs of the Warkari tradition, sung one after another as a single set.

  • Warkari roots: The Warkaris follow Vitthal of Pandharpur, and for them worship is something you do together, by singing. If the tradition draws you, see our Shegaon to Pandharpur yatra itinerary.
  • The exact order: What you’ve read here is the general Warkari form. The song order at Shegaon is set by the hall, so you’ll pick it up as you listen.

Never heard the abhangs before? Listen to the first song, then join in when you feel ready.

How can you join the evening bhajan?

No invitation or training needed. Just sit in the hall and sing along during Haripath and Bhajan.

  • Where: The main temple premises, usually the Sabha Mandap facing the Samadhi.
  • Seating: On the floor, with men and women seated separately. If you’re travelling with elders, our senior citizen travel tips may help.
  • Phones: Phones and photography are not allowed anywhere on the temple premises. Keep yours in your room or in the Bhakt Niwas locker facility.

Leave your phone behind before you reach the temple gate. The ban covers the whole premises.

Why the evening bhajan matters to devotees

For many pilgrims, the bhajan is the quiet end to a long day of darshan.

  • Singing together: In Warkari practice, chanting the Lord’s name with others is worship in itself. You don’t need any ritual training.
  • Shegaon’s Warkari link: Many devotees call Shegaon the Pandharpur of Vidarbha.
  • Everyone can take part: You don’t have to sing well. Joining in is an offering. If you’d like to give more, read about seva and volunteering in Shegaon.

Try to stay until the last abhang ends. If you have to leave, slip out quietly between songs.
